In His Own Words: Verhines Cottage Resident Overcomes the Odds

Verhines Cottage Resident Overcomes the OddsI came to Baptist Children’s Home more than a year ago.  Throughout my residency, I have experienced the love and leadership that brought me to where I am today.  If not for the Children’s Home and the love of Christ, I would undoubtedly be sitting in a cell getting three square meals a day, heading down a path that would lead to worse.

My houseparents, Brant and Dixie, are the key reason to my success in the program.  They accepted me into their home when I was so […]

Angels’ Cove Helps Young Mother Discover Love and Acceptance through Jesus Christ

Jazmine-thumbnailJazmine discovered the love of God at Angels’ Cove and her life changed forever (Spring 2016)

To see Jazmine’s bright smile today, you couldn’t imagine the sorrow that she has experienced throughout her young life.  She was raised in state foster care and moved around so many times that she remembers very little of her life before the age of 10.  The only thing she remembers from her early childhood was feeling
so starved for love and attention that she would do anything to get it.

During her teenage years she tried to fill that […]

The Heart of a Host Family

A Safe Families for Children Testimony (Spring 2016)
By Michael and Luci Maynard

“It has been close to two years since our first Safe Families placement. We were given the privilege of caring for four siblings, ages five, four, three and two years old while their mother was at the hospital delivering their new baby sister.  Yes, we were nervous, and no…we were not totally prepared, but God was by our side through it all.  And with God’s help, we survived!  The children stayed in our home for about 10 days.  We […]

What God Taught Me Through Safe Families

Safe Families for Children Success StoryWhat God Taught Me Through Safe Families (Winter 2015)
By Melanie Dewaal

Benita is one of our precious Angels’ Cove moms. She has older children who were removed because she was homeless. She came to Angels’ Cove for this pregnancy so she could keep her baby and work toward reuniting with her other children. In the beginning, she was angry and hateful but gradually you could see the changes God was making in her life. Her facial features began to soften as she grew in the Lord. […]

Marion Third Baptist Church is Making a Difference through Safe Families

marion-first-baptist-thumbnailMarion Third Baptist Church is Making a Difference through Safe Families (Spring 2015)

In July of 2014, a very scared and apprehensive man met with me, Lori Shelley (Safe Family Host Home) and a social worker from Lutheran Services at Ray Fosse Park in Marion, IL. His name was David Garcia and he was in desperate need of help with his family. David’s wife, Caron, had made some mistakes and was no longer allowed in the home. David had a baby who was considered “failure to thrive,” a kindergartener, and a job […]

Finding the Place Where Your Heart Belongs

Finding the Place Where Your Heart Belongs (Winter 2014)

There is something amazingly beautiful about a family who would take a child into their home and make room for her at their table. It is a wonderful reflection of what God does for each of us. At one point, we were all lost and wondering aimlessly and God made room for us. He gave us significance and a sense of belonging. Though He did not have to, He chose to love us and we are infinitely better for it!

Recently we witnessed the transformational […]

With God, All Things Are Possible! (Summer 2014)

At Angels’ Cove Maternity Center, we provide care for women experiencing crisis pregnancies. Recently, we had the privilege of caring for a bright 15-year-old who gave birth to a beautiful baby girl while in our care. Circumstances in her family, unfortunately, made returning home with a baby out of the question. Our staff began to pray that God would provide a family who would care for this young mother and her child. Asking for such a […]
