Baptist Children's Home (BCH)
Residential Care Cottages
line

The heart of BCH is the family life in our five cottages, each with their own distinct personalities. Staffed by Christian houseparent couples, the cottage environment provides:

  • A strong model for healthy family structure
  • Positive interaction with authority figures
  • Appropriate interaction with peers struggling through similar issues
  • Guidance for each resident's personal struggles

Ballard Cottage
Ballard Cottage was named after Nancy Ballard whose will provided a substantial portion of the funds needed to build the cottage in 1952. Ballard Cottage can house up to 8 girls at a time and is one of two girl's cottages on campus. Earl and Mary Pershbacher currently serve as house-parents to the girls of Ballard Cottage. Earl and Mary have been caring for children at BCHFS since 2009.Ballard Cottage

Garrison Cottage was named after Laura Garrison. Her estate proceeds went to the construction and furnishings of the cottage in 1961. Chet and Bobbi Keyes are the house-parents of Garrison Cottage, which provides a loving home for up to 8 boys. Chet and Bobbi have been members of our BCHFS family for more than 15 years.

Mathias Cottage
Mathias Cottage was named after Joe Mathias. Better known as Uncle Joe, he was the first full-time superintendent of the Baptist Children's Home. Mathias Cottage was constructed in 1952 and named in his honor. House-parents, John and Roberta Smith have been providing care for the girls of Mathias Cottage since 2009.

Verhines CottageVerhines Cottage
Verhines Cottage was named after Harvey Verhines. A sizeable gift was given in memory of Harvey Verhines by his daughter Mary Camden. The funds were used to convert the farm manager's home into a cottage in 1972. Verhines is one of three boy's cottages on our Carmi campus and has living facilities for up to 8 boys. Zach and Elisa Strange, along with their daughter, Sydney, began serving as house-parents of the cottage in 2010.

Staley CottageStaley Cottage
Staley Cottage was named after Clyde & June Staley. Their daughter and son-in-law, Sandra & Dave Paddock, are major donors who helped fund the renovation of our Supervisor's Home. The Home was transformed into Staley Cottage, which opened in April 2005. Along with their daughter Allison, Bob and Jen Northup have been providing love and guidance to the boys of Staley Cottage since 2005.
